IE11 & preserve3d

(Michael Brett) #1

Hi all!

I’ve got a WIP that is using CSS 3d-transforms. Can I Use says that the transform-style: preserve-3d property is borked on ie10 & 11. I jumped across to modernizr to test for it, but IE11 is not failing that test. What gives? Has anyone come across this before, and come up with a workaround?

Any help would be appreciated.

No experience of this myself, but I always refer to w3schools, and they say IE11 okay:

I’ve been doing some digging and this is from the horse’s mouth

As of Microsoft Edge, the preserve-3d value is supported.

That motherscratcher is boned for me in ie11. That’s cool, can’t always look the same, but I want to mitigate the effects for content reasons (don’t judge me :crying_cat_face:). I could browser-sniff, but isn’t that naughty?

Is this any good for you? https://github.com/Modernizr/Modernizr/pull/999

Cheers for this, I’ll have a butcher’s

Quick update: This seems to still be a live issue: https://github.com/Modernizr/Modernizr/issues/1748

I’m going to play around with the proposition in the issue thread for a bit, but that seems like a rabbit hole I don’t really want to go down.

Internet EXPLORRRRRRRREEEERRRRRRRRR!!!

Another update: I’ve tested the proposed change in the issue thread and it works for me in IE11, I expect Modernizr to be patched pretty soon.

Side note: Modernizr is a pretty nice code sample to read through.
