You ‘may be aware’ of my love/hate relationship with Clojure tooling.
This morning I put DrRacket on my Pi. It looks a nice teaching environment, post-Scratch, if you don’t want to damage children’s brains with the place-orientation of OOP.
It deals most easily with lists rather than Clojure’s sophisticated data structure abstractions but if it was good enough for John McCarthy, it might meet a child’s needs. They already know lists.
I also looked at Squeak Smalltalk, which Scratch is written in. It’s a bit weird. The Squeak VM is part of standard Raspbian but the system has to be fetched from elsewhere. Disney appear to have taken responsibility for Squeak from Apple. I’ll leave that for another day.
